CAIS only as a place to do assignments.

RESPONSE FROM CAIS:

CAIS is a one-stop information centre for the whole campus. We offer various services and facilities to users. You may come over and meet our Reference Librarian, Ms Huzaimah to check on what services that we can offer you. Besides doing assignments you can do reference on our collection, borrow out books of your interest and you can watch Astro and listen to the music at CAIS.

To provide a newspaper collection for every level at CAIS.

RESPONSE FROM CAIS:

So far we placed all subscribed newspapers at Level LG for all users. The location is very strategic and more comfortable for newspaper reading at LG or sunken area.

Very slow in registration/notification for wireless.

RESPONSE FROM CAIS:

Users need to register online for wireless access at UNIMAS portal or Anjung UNIMAS. CICTS staff will check for approval and notify users in 3 working days.

Closing time of Serials collection area is too early.

RESPONSE FROM CAIS:

Users can access to the Serials collection during CAIS opening hours. However Serials office is open during office hours. Please check with our staff on duty at Level LG or counter staff at Level G if you need any assistance.

To ensure a proper binding collection (eg. Cut off pages/wording)

RESPONSE FROM CAIS:

Please notify us which binding collection you meant. For binding of books and journals we outsource to a bindery company in Kuching and we provide them with the right specifications to maintain the quality of the binding process and bound materials.

Difficulty to get photocopy card during weekend.

RESPONSE FROM CAIS:

We have some supply of those cards from UNIMAS co-op to students especially during night time and weekends. Please check with our counter staff but we need to clarify that CAIS do not acquire and sell photocopy cards to our students.

Counter staff are not available in the evening shift.

RESPONSE FROM CAIS:

We have 2 shift duty for our counter staff and those on duty in the evening shift will be available at the counter or doing book shelving at the racks at Level 1 and 2. The names of our staff on duty are available at the notice board near the main exit.

To provide staff contact for emergency.

RESPONSE FROM CAIS:

Counter staff on duty and the security guard will be available during CAIS opening hours until 12 midnight. Please contact them immediately if there is any emergency. Media collection staff are not very helpful.

We send our staff for some training and also indicate to them regularly on the importance of users to our organization. We hope to be very professional in our job and to be very user-oriented and service-oriented. I can assure you that our staff will be more responsible and helpful in future.

Unsuccessful wireless in 24-hour Reading Room.

RESPONSE FROM CAIS:

The 24-hour reading room is on wireless mode but students need to register first using online form for wireless access. We will check with our colleague at CICTS on this matter.

To provide mobile library for those who are far from CAIS.

RESPONSE FROM CAIS:

At present we do not provide mobile library unlike public library like Pustaka Negeri Sarawak. However users can access to our homepage at www.cais.unimas.my to check on our services and facilities. You may also take a look at the Web OPAC to know what titles are available in our collection.

To introduce students reward.

RESPONSE FROM CAIS:

We have plans to reward students who borrowed the most number of books in a year. However we are still checking on the budget allocation for this purpose.

To form library’s club for students

RESPONSE FROM CAIS:

So far we have various clubs for students under the Centre for Students Development (CSD). We have yet to introduce a library’s club for UNIMAS students. Please do check with CSD for procedures to form a library club.
