Application Procedure for Malaysian Candidates

UNIMAS offers programme on a full time basis to qualified candidates with STPM, STAM, Matriculation/Foundation and Diploma/equivalent for admission into Bachelor Degree Programs.

Application for admission to IPTA (Public University) including UNIMAS for First Semester Intake (September) every year is coordinated by Management of Student Admission Division (BPKP), Department of Higher Education (JPT), Ministry of Higher Education and advertised in local major newspapers.

To apply, candidates must first obtain a unique ID from Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) by paying RM 15.60 (Candidates with STPM/STAM/equivalent).

Application Policy

Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) undertakes policy of students enrollment into IPTA based on merit principle. Beginning of Academic Session 2006/2007 onwards, MoHE’s policy on students’ intake is based on 90% marks for academic excellence and 10% marks for co-curriculum. Program Latihan Khidmat Negara (PLKN) is one of the components considered under co-curriculum excellence.

Application Procedure for International Candidates


Applying to UNIMAS
Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) welcomes applications from foreign students to study at the university in a wide range of undergraduate (Bachelor’s Degree) programs.

Interested applicants should have successfully completed a minimum of 12 years of primary and secondary schools with a Higher School Certificate (HSC) qualification or its equivalents.

In addition, students who have obtained a high school/college diploma or its equivalent may also apply. Applications should be submitted to the International Student Admission Unit, Undergraduate Studies Division, using the UNIMAS International Student Undergraduate Application Form.

Financial Info

To obtain a student visa successful applicants must demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to support themselves throughout their study in Malaysia.

As prospective students you must produce the following documents as proof of your ability to support yourself:

An affidavit of financial support plus a confidential bank statement from yourself, a relative or personal sponsor showing that sufficient funds are available to support your studies at UNIMAS.

A sponsorship letter from a government agency, organization or institution who will support you financially until the completion of your studies.

The documents stated above are needed once you have received a formal offer from UNIMAS.

The relevant forms and other related documents that you need to fill in and submit together would be sent to you in the offer package.

Note: UNIMAS presently does not provide any form of scholarship or financial aid to international undergraduate students.

Note: International students are allowed to work part-time up to 20 hrs per week while studying full-time in Malaysia subjected to immigration conditions. However, this source of income would not be able to fully finance their studies at UNIMAS.
