Biodata

Mohammad b. Hossin was born in Sarawak, Malaysia on June 1978. He received his first degree in Information Technology from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Malaysia in 2000. In March, 2001, he joined the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development, UNIMAS as a tutor. Then, he continued his study at the University of Essex, United Kingdom in 2002, and received his second degree MSc. in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence and Agents) in 2003. In November, 2003, he joined back UNIMAS as a full-time lecturer. After seven years in UNIMAS, then he pursued his study at the doctoral level, at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and graduated in 2012. In April, 2014, he officially joined Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, UNIMAS.

 

 

His main research interest is on Data Mining Optimization using nature-inspired algorithms and applies to commercial data (eg. medical data, financial data, educational data and psychological data). As now, his current research focuses on evaluation problem in data classification problems. This study focuses on modifying the current performance metric that apply to search and select the optimal solution based on sampling classifiers such Genetic Algorithm, Learning Vector Quantization and Monte Carlo Sampling classifier.

 

 

In addition, he also interested on mining the massive commercial data. The focus of this study is more towards feature selection and extracting knowledge from massive data. As massive data are not always better data, therefore, finding a better preprocessing technique and robust data mining algorithms are become critical. Through a suitable preprocessing technique and robust data mining algorithm the time taken to analyze massive raw data and mining process can be reduced and simultaneously increase the performance of data mining algorithm. Through the above mentioned modifications, he believes a better development of decision support systems and data mining tools could be produced to assist human in their decision making.

 

 

Apart of Data Mining Optimization, he also interested on designing and constructing a knowledge model for crowdsourcing disaster management in Malaysia. Crowdsourcing is a method that collects the information and utilizes the data received from volunteers (human users) to provide critically lacking or complementary information during disaster response. This method is basically in line with the requirements of disaster preparedness. Through a better knowledge model, a better crowdsourcing disaster management system could be built to help public and disaster management agencies being prepared before the disaster take place.
