KUCHING : Five final year students from Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering brings honour to UNIMAS when they victoriously bring five medals and one special award at International Engineering Invention and Innovation Exhibition (i-ENVEX 2015) held at UniMAP, Universiti Malaysia Perlis from 17th-19th April 2015. I-Envex is an annual exhibition that involves not only the participation of various level of education from local schools, polytechnics, colleges and universities, but also from numerous countries such as Egypt, Korea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Oman and Philippines. This international event is a joint collaboration between Malaysian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Malaysia (MOSTI), Malaysian Ministry of Education (MoE), ENVEX Young Research Club (EYReC) and the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS). I-Envex is also well known for its association with international agencies such as World Invention Intellectual Property Associations (WIIPA), Korean University Invention Association (KUIA) and Association of Young Innovator and Scientist Indonesia (AYISI).

A total of five projects were presented during the exhibition where each of them has won at least one medal. Herbert Ian Juhan with project title of “Noise Reduction Technology for Bladeless Fan” grabbed one gold medal and a special award from Malaysian Research & Invention Society (MyRIS). Another three students; Mohd Rahmat A. Rahman, Wong Lee Kwang and Nur Farhana binti Abdul Kadir won silver award with their project title of “Studies on Molten Metal Behavior at High Pressure Die Casting”, “Analysis of Aeroplane Winglet on Propeller” and “Potential Application of Spiral Bladed Vertical Axis Wind Turbine in Energy Harvesting”, respectively. Meanwhile, “Microfluidics Flow Technology Improvement in Medical Industry Application” by Yana Shaheera Yunos won Bronze at the exhibition.

With a theme of ‘Engineers for Society’ this exhibition has attracts more than 400 products and innovation to be showcased and more than 600 participants has participated in these three days exhibition. This exhibition has encouraged students to think out of the box and create an innovation that will benefit the society as the theme said. Students developed their confidence during the presentation to the juries and also increase their competency with local and international students.
