Department Mission 

The Department of Family Medicine, guided by the principles of Family Medicine*, is dedicated to advancing patient-centered healthcare through our programs in education, research and clinical service.

To provide continuing, comprehensive medical care, health maintenance and preventive services to each member of the family regardless of sex, age or type of problem, be it biological, behavioral or social.   • Achieve national visibility and recognition in the Medical Student Education arena

  • Provide and maintain a department faculty and infrastructure that successfully supports academic and clinical achievement
  • Provide outstanding, innovative medical education, having as its emphasis prevention, wellness, management of common problems, and patient-centered health care, in the context of Family Medicine
  • Provide clinical and educational research and scholarly activity to improve the health of patients, families and communities and advance the discipline of Family Medicine.
  • Provide patient-centered care that expresses the values of Family Medicine and promotes access to high quality, cost effective, primary care services
