Research Interest

In wildlife, my research interests lie in statistical ecology and applied statistics in Animal Ecology, incorporating statistical modeling and computer intensive statistics. The quantification of species diversity into indices (richness, evenness and heterogeneity) and species abundance models has been a major focus in my research. Species abundance modeling requires interests in statistical programming (in my case using Fortran) utilizing the principles of randomization tests, abundance distributions, and computer intensive statistics to compute, for example, optimized parameter(s) and Chi-square goodness-of-fit tests. Currently, my main research focus is analyzing closed and open Capture-Recapture models for a geographically closed and open habitat, for small mammals livetrapping data. Complimenting this focus, my other research focus is on population estimation of Proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus), the primate species that is endemic to Borneo. A case study has been done in Bako National Park; research will be continued to quantify Proboscis monkey population for the whole state of Sarawak.
