Research Interests

i. Taxonomic and genetic diversity of fungi from different environments in Sarawak
ii. Production of Gaharu in Aquilaria spp.
iii. Bio-control of plant pathogens – particularly diseases by Ganoderma species

My recent research interests is in documenting macro-fungi in Malaysia. Works were done on samples that have been collected from various locations, and most of the samples were of Basidiomycota (Agaricales and Aphyllophorales). Expectedly, there are more species can be found in the forest, thus warrant more field works to be conducted to obtain new collections. The morphological characteristics of the fungi are used as the main tool for identification, but DNA analysis of selected group also will be carried out.

The experience of working on post-harvest pathology of fruits since 1984, has provided me a great deal of knowledge on various aspects required for post-harvest handling technology. The importance of reducing losses and deteriorations caused by fungi, especially in agricultural products, inspires me to continue doing the related research. Study involving the most common and important plant pathogenic fungi in the tropics, Botryodiplodia theobromae and Phomopsis spp, will be conducted soon.
