Registration open for pre-conference workshop on eve of ICCS event

KUCHING: A pre-conference workshop will be held prior to the ninth International Conference on Cognitive Science (ICCS 2013) here in August.

A total of six papers will be presented at the Aug 26 workshop on the eve of the Aug 27 conference. In addition, three workshops will be held in two sessions, morning and afternoon.

The workshops will be attended by undergraduates, graduate students, lecturers and researchers to expose participants to the theories and application of the topics presented at the conference proper. The workshops will be held at the central teaching facility, multimedia theatre and computer laboratory at the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas).

The speakers at the workshops are Professor Allan Hobson, Professor Rosalia Silvestri (both from USA), Professor William Hayward (Hong Kong), Professor Loo Chu Kiong (Malaysia), Professor Naomi Miyake (Japan), Professor Jack Copeland ((New Zealand) and Dr Heather Winskel (Australia).

Prof Hobson and Prof Silvestri will be presenting a paper on ‘Basic science and clinical aspects of sleep dependent changes in the motor system’ while Prof Hayward on ‘Techniques for studying human face perception’.

Prof Loo will be talking about the ‘Practical introduction to evolutionary ensemble classification and application’ and Professor Miyake’s topic is ‘Collaborative learning technology’.

The ICCS 2013 is organised by the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development, Unimas. The organising committee is headed by Asst Professor Dr Shahren Ahmad Zaidi Adruce assisted by UCSI Communications Sdn Bhd.

Held for the first time in Malaysia, the four-day conference will be at Hilton Hotel Kuching from Aug 27-30. Last year’s conference was held in Beijing. It is expected to attract researchers and practitioners of various disciplines in Cognitive Sciences like anthropologists, educationalists, linguists and psychologists from the academic and industrial sectors.

Papers presented during the conference proper would be published in the Procedia-Social and Behavioral Sciences Journal (ISSN: 1877-0428, Imprint: ELVEVIER) to be indexed by SciVerse ScienceDirect and Scopus.

Scopus has the largest abstract and citation database of research literature and quality web sources, covering peer-reviewed titles from over 5,000 publishers.
Registration for both the conference and pre-conference workshop is still open.

Post conference tours will be organised after the event. It’s an opportunity for the conference delegates and speakers to explore the beautiful attractions of Kuching and what Sarawak has to offer.

Details on the tours and other information are available in the ICCS 2013 website (www.iccs2013.org). Inquiries can also be forwarded to the ICCS 2013 secretariat at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
