UNIMAS to Organize UNIMAS STEM EnCon 2014

Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in strategic partnership with Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Bumiputera Sarawak (TEGAS), will organizing UNIMAS STEM EnCon2014 The conference is endorsed by the Sarawak State Government and in collaboration with Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA), Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and Natural Resources and Environment Board Sarawak (NREB). The co-organizers of this conference are the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sarawak Branch and Centre of Excellence Renewable Energy (CoERE). The theme of the conference is “Advances in Process Engineering, Green Energy & STEM Education”. 

During the press conference held at the Sarawak DUN Complex, TEGAS was represented by its Chairman , YB Datu Haji Len Talif Saleh while UNIMAS was represented by YBhg Prof Dato’ Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIMAS.

The main objectives of the conference are to provide avenue for professionals, academicians and industries to highlight and transfer their research findings and developments in Process Engineering and Green Energy, to provide a platform for professionals, academicians and industries to network and exchange ideas on recent developments in the field of Process Engineering, Green Energy and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education,  to disseminate SCORE current progress and development and other related information to relevant industries and publics, and to complement the state government and SCORE program in modernizing education and produce skilled manpower.

“With STEM, we have developed a working partnership with UNIMAS last year, so this will be our efforts in sustaining that interest, not only in the academic fraternity, but to the general public such as students, teachers and parents,” said YB Datu Haji Len Talif Saleh during the press conference.

EnCon is an annual engineering conference by the Faculty of Engineering of UNIMAS and in its seventh year, will be the biggest with the involvement of TEGAS, RECODA, SEB and NREB. Approximately 200 participants from different backgrounds and areas of expertise will attend this conference to share their latest findings related to Advances in Process Engineering, Green Energy and STEM Education.

“UNIMAS being the premier university in the state is always committed in supporting the state agenda in SCORE whereby we hope to produce the technology and human resources required,” said YBhg Prof Dato’ Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi.

The topic of the conference will cover Energy and Environment, Biotechnology, Advanced Material, Transport Process, Reaction Engineering and Catalysis, Renewable Energy, Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Education, Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE), and other miscellaneous topics in the areas of advances in process engineering and green energy.

Main feature of the conference includes four prominent keynote addresses by Emeritus Professor Dr Martin Rhodes from Monash University, Australia, Datuk Torstein Dale Sjotveit from Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), Professor Ir. Dr Mohd Sobri Takriff from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Professor Ir. Dr Dominic Foo Chwan Yee from Nottingham University - Malaysia Branch, Malaysia. 

Also present during the press conference was Prof Dr Kopli Bujang, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) UNIMAS, Datuk Torstein Dale Sjotveit of SEB and representatives for the Faculty of Engineering, UNIMAS, RECODA and NREB.
