SaLT talk on preservation of Sarawak languages, Gazette

KUCHING: Sarawak Development Institute (SDI) will be conducting a public talk on ‘Preserving Sarawak Languages and History through Language Processing’ on April 17 at Kompleks Azam conference room from 3.30pm to 5pm.

In a press statement yesterday, SDI said the talk on Friday will be delivered by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) associate professor at Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology and leader of Sarawak Language Technology (SaLT), Unimas Dr Balisomanandray Ranaivo Malancon.

SaLT is a research group started in 2006 to reviltalise and maintain Sarawak’s culture and heritage through the use of information and communications (ICT) technology.

SDI stated that the presentation will highlight SaLT’s current projects, namely a speech synthesizer for Sarawak Malay, a morphological analyser for Iban and a timeline for Sarawak Gazette.

Balisomanandray will also discuss the challenges faced by the group in carrying out its work.
