KOTA SAMARAHAN: The four-day ‘K4U Carnival 2012’ organised by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) which began yesterday is held at a grand scale for the first time.

It features four types of carnival events – career, entrepreneurship, co-curriculum and spirituality.

Held in conjunction with the university’s 20th anniversary, the carnival is aimed at giving UNIMAS students exposure to lifelong learning concept, career opportunities in government and private agencies, and entrepreneurship.

Deputy vice-chancellor (student affairs and alumni) Prof Mohd Fadzil Abdul Rahman, who launched the carnival yesterday, said the carnival was a good platform for its students to communicate with the outside community.

“Through this event, our students will be exposed to various entrepreneurship opportunities and careers as well as find out more information on higher learning education in the country and overseas.

“Apart from mastering soft skills, their involvement in co-curriculum and spiritual activities can help them to compete globally,” he said.

The activities to be held during the four-day carnival include free health screening, exhibitions, open job interviews and demonstrations by uniformed teams like Royal Malaysia Police, Army, Fire and Rescue Department, Prisons Department and Civil Defence Department, while food and beverage stalls will also be set up.

Others include antique cars exhibition, high powered motorbikes exhibition, demonstration on canning punishment, putting off fire techniques and marching.

There will also be nightly entertainment by local and invited celebrities, dance, singing and poem recitals.

The carnival is open from 9am to 11pm daily.
