Maximus to launch Second eBario Knowledge Fair

KUCHING: The Second eBario Knowledge Fair to be held from November 4 to 6  at the Balai Raya, Bario, Sarawak will be officially launched by Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Maximus Ongkili.
Over the last 15 years information and communication technologies (ICTs) have been increasingly and optimistically promoted as a means of transforming developing countries into “modern” and knowledge-based societies and to alleviate some of the social and economic problems of developing world, particularly those in rural areas.

Yet very little is known about the veracity of these aspirations, much less about the long-term social and economic effects of these technologies upon societies both in urban and rural areas.

Hence, Second eBario Knowledge Fair which is hosted by e-Bario Telecentre, Bario Kelabit Highlands Sarawak, and jointly organised by two faculties at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak: Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technologies and Faculty of Social Sciences focuses on the relationships between Information Communication Technologies (ICT), development, knowledge and society.

The main supporter of the conference is the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and is also supported by Sarawak Information and Communication Technology Unit (ICTU), Chief Minister’s Department and Sarawak Convention Bureau.

The Knowledge Fair aims to bring together researchers, scientists, technology developers and designers, policy makers, development implementers and practitioners, teachers, and community leaders with a concern for technological and social opportunities, issues and challenges involved in bringing technologies to people and vice versa.
