Study To Determine Human Resource Needs Of Score

on 02 Mac 2010.

KUCHING, March 1 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Curtin University are to conduct a study on the human resource needs of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score).

Director of the State Planning Unit in the Chief Minister's Department, Datuk Ismawi Ismuni, said Unimas and a professor from Curtin University would determine the type of skills and knowledge that would be required by the various industries in the Score.

"The study will enable the public and private institutions of higher learning in the state to produce the graduates to meet the demand of the industries and take up the jobs offered by the Score," he said at the economic forum held in conjunction with the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) general assembly at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, here.

He also said that Unimas was entrusted with offering suitable degree courses and programmes to produce the workforce to meet the demand in the Score.

He said the development of the Score could create 1.6 million jobs by 2030, with more than 830,000 of these in the Score itself.

The Score is one of five regional development corridors established nation-wide. It covers an area in the Sarawak central region, stretching 320 km along the coast from Tanjung Manis to Similajau.
