KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) plans to hold more anti-corruption programmes among rural communities as its contribution to the Government’s efforts to fight graft.

The university’s anti-corruption secretariat recently held a community programme on combating graft at Kampung Belimbing, Padawan, in collaboration with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sarawak branch.

The programme aimed to highlight the role of local communities in helping the Government fight corruption.

It also to educate the villagers on avoiding corrupt practices besides giving an opportunity for students to serve a rural community.

This was the first time the secretariat organised a programme outside the university, with its emphasis on raising awareness among rural folk on issues related to corruption.

The programme included a talk by MACC officer Jutim Nyagam on the role the community’s role in tackling corruption, followed by a question-and-answer session between the villagers and MACC staff.

There was also a quiz to test the understanding on corruption issues as well as an exhibition on corruption, transparency and integrity.
